You-Know-Who came out of that grave on this day a long time ago. PG! I’m more grateful this year to know this story and to know that He is living in my heart than I’ve ever been. I re-realized today that ONLY HE can change my heart. Put an action to my feet, a word to my mouth, or a look on my face, and they are just…things. Let Him change the core of my heart, and then there is real, sp*r*t filled life. I love learning this, no matter how many times. It’s the root of truth.

Today is also 3-23-08. That means it’s math problem day! 3+2+3=08!!! I love these days! Doesn’t the precision of it all just make your life brighter!? I want to calculate how many there are in a century. And finally, today marks the half way point in this journey. Hmmm. I’m a bit like oil and water on my feelings towards this, but tomorrow, I’ll probably feel totally different. Bloom where you’re planted is slowly becoming my mantra.
3 people, along with the three reasons why today is great, went swimming today! All three of them work for the families I help, so it was wonderful to know that they were taking such a bold step here. Swimming is different here than at home. They ask you questions before getting wet that require not just a ‘yes or no’ response, but a real commitment, if you agree to it. They commit to sacrifice their lives to have their hearts changed. Why don’t we do this? Why don’t we crave it?

Raining, but not pouring.

leave a comment »

It’s raining again today. I’m okay with that.
The past couple of days have been kind of cloudy for me too, regardless of the sun.

I’m kind of missing things lately. No…i’m fully missing things. Things=people, independence, milk. But…I’m in a foreign country. Live it up, right? hmm. I don’t know about that, every day.

I have a love hate relationship with this book I’m reading right now. It helps you identify learning styles in yourself and in those you teach or parent. It’s telling me about all the styles one can be, but it’s not telling me which I am and that’s what I want it to do. Ironically, my wanting that so badly is probably a big clue.

I’m going to go make more tea now.
In my favorite mug.
While watching the rain fall.

testing, testing..

I have my first language test tomorrow! I never thought I’d be eager to study for anything while I was here…but…I was wrong. I like the language, but I really like keeping my mind active and challenged. Who knew I would miss being educated!?!

oh…don’t forget the guessing game in the post below!!!

Game night!

with 6 comments

Tonight a few of our friends from in town came over for some great food and some intense rounds of spoons! Talk about fun! I am exhausted…who knew a card game could do it to ya!

For those of you who know her, here’s a pic I shot of Katibeth earlier in the night. She’s growing so fast!

And here’s a little pictorial guessing game for all of you. Remember the kind where you had to identify what was going? I always loved those! Anyway, here’s your chance to try! What do you think happened here? Anyone close will get a prize! Those who know…don’t cheat/give it away!!!

Today is black and white day, obviously!

the wedding…

leave a comment »

It’s actually been a week or so since the wedding, but I wanted to let you see what went on. Because of school, we actually missed the ceremony. Bummer! The culture here celebrates late into the night fortunately, so we were able to spend a few hours with the happy couple and MANY of their deaf friends! I just about LOVED every single second of it. I wanted to take so many pictures, but I’m finding my two passions don’t really blend well. Signing while getting in there with my camera…not so easy! Thanks to Holli though, for helping me document the day.

I especially like their signs here…they are just SO vivid! Very different from American sign. I love this collage, because you can see how beautiful and expressive the deaf culture is. This collection of shots was taken within 8 or 10 minutes…and the light was turned on in the middle of it! (THANK YOU!, said the photo side of my brain!) If you’re like me in my appreciation for old sitcoms, you might also view this like The Brady Bunch logo. What else would you see with a 3×3 of pictures? Now, if you’ll look at Jan, you can see an angry deaf man, while Greg is an array of confusion, monkey faces, and excitement; Bobby just looks like he’s ‘smiling and nodding,’ and good ol Alice is finally understanding things.

Here are the lovely bride and groom, in front of our wonderful meal. I said wonderful with that phrase of, “eat whatever is placed before you,” on my tongue, if you know what I mean. Could you tell? It really wasn’t that bad, and those fried meat things on the bottom right kind of tasted like popcorn chicken. Kind of! 🙂

After our meal, and my introduction session to more of C* sign language, we headed up to the roof for more space. The deaf need to see everyone in order to have a conversation, so it makes sense! It was during this time that I found out most of my new friends know my Greatest Friend of ALL time! This might be my favorite picture ever, because it was caught when “Tommy” (guy on far left) was telling me the Good Story. Ahh, I loved this night!

Sometimes I just look around and realize what I’m sitting in…and become awed.
This evening was one of those times.
